항공기 또는 궤도 론칭 운반체를 위한 운반체 엔진과 같은 엔진에서 이용될 수 있는 열교환기(52)가 제공된다. 열교환기(52)는, 수많은 작은 직경의 관(120)을 각각 포함하는, 복수의 나선형 섹션(108)을 가지는 대체로 드럼-형상으로 구성될 수 있을 것이다. 나선형 섹션이 서로 내부에서 나선형이 될 수 있을 것이다. 열교환기가 복수의 상호 축방향으로 이격된 후프 지지부를 가지는 지지 구조물을 포함할 수 있을 것이고, 중간 헤더(440)를 포함할 수 있을 것이다. 열교환기는, 성에 또는 얼음 형성으로 인해서 열교환기가 막히는 것을 방지하기 위해서 이용되는 메탄올 또는 다른 부동제의 재순환을 포함할 수 있을 것이다.

    A heat exchanger for cooling a fluid in a flow path and containing a component liable to phase change below a temperature thereof comprises a series of tubes for the passage of coolant and an injector for introducing an anti-freeze component into the fluid in the flow path. The injector is an antifreeze injector, such as a methanol injector arranged for connection to a source of methanol. The antifreeze injector comprises a plurality of injection portions and is arranged to inject a more concentrated antifreeze at a first injection portion in a first region of air flow and a more water-diluted antifreeze at a second injection portion which is more upstream than the first injection portion at a second region of air flow that is warmer than the first region.
