The present invention relates to an apparatus for correcting a pattern speed of a vehicle navigation system in real-time and a method thereof. The apparatus of the present invention searches for a route (for example, a route desired by the driver or an optimum route with the shortest time required) to a desired destination of a driver, and corrects a pattern speed in real-time which is collected in advance for calculating the required time by reflecting variation of an actual speed which is collected in real-time when a required time per section on the searched route or the required time to a final destination is calculated and predicted. The present invention can provide an accurate route guide service to the driver by reducing prediction errors relatively remarkably as compared to a pattern speed not reflecting variation of the actual speed or using the actual speed only when the driver searches for the desired route and calculates the required time on the search route, since the apparatus corrects the pattern speed collected in advance for calculating the required time in real-time by reflecting variation of the actual speed collected in real-time.
