To accurately set and operate a reference carriage for maintaining appropriate spacing between carriages in an automatic circulating ropeway.SOLUTION: A reference carriage 26a, which serves as the basis for the spacing between carriages, is equipped with an ID tag T which records carriage information. The station is equipped with a cable movement detector 50 which emits a pulse signal as a cable 18 moves, an ID reader R which reads the information on the ID tag T, and a carrier detection switch SW1 which detects the passage of a carriage 26. When a carrier detection switch SW1 detects the reference carriage 26a, it begins counting pulses, and by determining the number of pulse counts, the carriage 26 following the reference carriage 26a is transported at a variable speed to adjust the carriage spacing.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
