To provide a contact wire in which optical fibers serving as abrasion detection lines are provided on both the right and left sides, respectively, which can inhibit the occurrence of microbending in the optical fiber even when it is wound around a drum with a small shell diameter, and which suppresses a decrease in reliability of overhead wiring tension.SOLUTION: A contact wire 1 comprises a contact wire body 10 which internally has two abrasion detection line holes 14 provided on both the sides of a center line 30, and two optical fibers 20 which serve as abrasion detection lines and which are housed in the two abrasion detection line holes 14. An effective diameter of the abrasion detection line hole 14 is in the range of 1.5-1.6 mm. A radial cross-sectional area of the optical fiber 20 is 45% or less of an effective cross-sectional area of the abrasion detection line hole 14.
