To provide an ammonia refrigeration system and an ammonia refrigeration method capable of stably cooling surplus ammonia for the ship carrying a liquefied ammonia as a fuel or a cargo.SOLUTION: A surplus ammonia refrigeration system is connected to the ship carrying a liquefied ammonia as a fuel or a cargo. The surplus ammonia refrigeration system comprises a decompression part 11 to depressurize the liquefied ammonia, a heat exchanging part 21 to cool the surplus ammonia using the depressurized, liquefied ammonia as a coolant, a decompression part 12 to depressurize the surplus ammonia in the front stage of the heat exchanging part and a decompression part 13 to further depressurize the surplus ammonia cooled by the heat exchanging part in the latter stage of the heat exchanging part.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
