To provide a light-weight coil spring having nonlinear characteristics.SOLUTION: A coil spring according to one embodiment is made of a strand (2) having one end and the other end. The strand (2) of the coil spring has, regarding a cross section of the strand (2), an effective part (13) composed of a circular cross section part (30), a square cross section part (31) having a substantially square cross section and including end coil parts (11), (12), and a tapered part (32). The second moment of area of the cross section of the square cross section part (31) is smaller than the second moment of area of the first cross section. The tapered part (32) has a cross-sectional area that changes from circular to approximately square and decreases, from the circular cross section part (30) toward the square cross section part (31).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1

    【課題】非線形特性を有しかつ軽量なコイルばねを提供すること。【解決手段】1つの実施形態に係るコイルばねは、一端と他端とを有する素線(2)からなる。このコイルばねの素線(2)は、素線(2)の断面に関し、円形断面部(30)からなる有効部(13)と、断面が実質的に正方形で座巻部(11)(12)を含む正方形断面部(31)と、テーパ部(32)とを有している。正方形断面部(31)の断面の断面二次極モーメントは第1の断面の断面二次極モーメントよりも小さい。前記テーパ部(32)は、前記円形断面部(30)から前記正方形断面部(31)に向かって、断面が円形から略正方形に変化するとともに断面積が減少する。【選択図】図1
