To provide a vehicle control device and a vehicle control method which can inhibit vehicle control from being made by using a road gradient when there is a possibility that the acquired road gradient is incorrect.SOLUTION: This invention is a vehicle control device which estimates a running condition gradient on the basis of a running condition, calculates a map gradient of a road including a vehicle forward from map information, arithmetically calculates a control gradient on the basis of running condition and the map gradient, determines whether or not an accuracy of the map gradient is low, and, in the case of the determination of a low accuracy of the map gradient, on the basis of the running condition and the control gradient, without using the map information for the arithmetically calculates a control gradient, arithmetically calculates a target value of the vehicle control quantity for the own vehicle.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2

    【課題】取得した道路の勾配が誤っている可能性がある場合に、誤っている可能性がある勾配を用いて車両制御が行われることを抑制できる車両制御装置及び車両制御方法を提供する。【解決手段】走行状態に基づいて走行状態勾配を推定し、地図情報から自車前方を含む道路の勾配である地図勾配を算出し、走行状態勾配及び地図勾配に基づいて、制御用の勾配を演算し、地図勾配の確度が低いか否かを判定し、地図勾配の確度が低いと判定している場合は、制御用の勾配の演算に、地図勾配を用いず、走行状態、及び制御用の勾配に基づいて、自車の車両制御量の目標値を演算する車両制御装置。【選択図】図2
