To provide an inter-vehicle distance estimation device for improving estimation accuracy of inter-vehicle distance between an own vehicle and a preceding vehicle based on a captured image of a front camera.SOLUTION: An inter-vehicle distance estimation device for estimating inter-vehicle distance between an own vehicle and a preceding vehicle from a vehicle width and a vehicle assumed width of the preceding vehicle based on a captured image of a front camera of the own vehicle includes: a first ratio calculation unit for calculating a first ratio that is a ratio between the vehicle width of the preceding vehicle on the captured image and a first lane width corresponding to the preceding vehicle on the captured image; a second ratio calculation unit for calculating a second ratio that is a ratio between a second lane width corresponding to a position in front of the own vehicle by certain distance on the captured image and an on-image vehicle assumed width that is the vehicle assumed width projected to the position in front of the own vehicle by certain distance on the captured image; a width correction unit for correcting the vehicle assumed width according to the first lane width and the first ratio when it is determined that an absolute value of difference between the first ratio and the second ratio is equal to or greater than a ratio threshold; and an inter-vehicle distance estimation unit for estimating inter-vehicle distance using the vehicle assumed width after correction.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8

    【課題】前方カメラの撮像画像に基づく自車両と先行車との車間距離の推定精度を高める車間距離推定装置を提供する。【解決手段】自車両の前方カメラの撮像画像に基づいて先行車の車両幅と車両想定幅とから自車両と先行車との車間距離を推定する車間距離推定装置であって、撮像画像上の先行車の車両幅と撮像画像上で先行車に対応する第一車線幅との比率である第一比率を算出する第一比率算出部と、撮像画像上で自車両から一定距離だけ前方の位置に対応する第二車線幅と撮像画像上で自車両から一定距離だけ前方の位置に投影した車両想定幅である画像上車両想定幅との比率である第二比率を算出する第二比率算出部と、第一比率と第二比率との差分の絶対値が比率閾値以上であると判定された場合に、第一車線幅と第一比率に応じて車両想定幅を補正する幅補正部と、補正後の前記車両想定幅を用いて車間距離を推定する車間距離推定部とを備える。【選択図】図8
