To provide a wind observation technique that can observe a three-dimensional wind flow.SOLUTION: An aerial drone for wind observation 50 comprises: an airframe 51 that enables unmanned flight by autonomous control or remote operation and also enables hovering by the thrust to be generated by rotating a main rotor 52; a flight control unit 63 that controls the flight of the airframe 51; an anemoscope 56 that is mounted on the airframe 51 and measures a wind direction in a horizontal direction; an anemometer 57 that is mounted on the airframe 51 and measures a wind velocity in the horizontal direction; and a vertical wind velocity measurement unit 65 that measures a wind velocity in a vertical direction on the basis of the thrust generated from the main rotor 52 while the airframe 51 is hovering.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
