To provide a braking mechanism having a simple and compact configuration and having high durability and excellent braking function.SOLUTION: A braking mechanism B comprises: a base part K attached to a leg part 2 for supporting a wheel 1; a brake plate 4 attached to the wheel 1; at least one braking piece 3 arranged in contact with the braking plate 4 so as to rotate integrally with the braking plate 4; a switching member 6 that is provided on the base part K, and can be switched to an attitude that allows the integral rotation of the braking piece 3 or an attitude that restricts the integral rotation of the braking piece 3, to bring the braking piece 3 into sliding contact with the braking plate 4; and an operation member 5 that changes the attitude of the switching member 6.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
