To provide a vehicle control device and a vehicle control method that are able to reduce risk of interrupting an automatic operation.SOLUTION: Based on dynamic map data acquired from a map server and the time-series data of a detection result from a front camera, an automatic operation ECU determines whether the detection capability of the front camera drops below a required level, necessary for continuing the automatic operation, within a predetermined prediction time. If it is determined that the detection capability drops below the required level, a predetermined temporary control that is not executed at normal time is started before the detection capability actually drop below the request level.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
