To provide an intermediate shaft in which rattle noise hardly occurs in a high temperature environment.SOLUTION: An intermediate shaft includes a metal outer tube, a metal inner shaft, a resin layer, and metal balls. The inner peripheral surface of the outer tube is provided with a plurality of grooved surfaces that are recessed radially outward, and the grooved surfaces are disposed at equal intervals in a circumferential direction over the entire circumference of the inner peripheral surface of the outer tube. The outer peripheral surface of the inner shaft is provided with a plurality of ridge portions that protrude radially outward and enter into the inside of the grooved surfaces, and a plurality of inner ball groove surfaces that are recessed radially inward. The inner ball groove surface is radially opposed to an outer ball groove surface, which is one of the plurality of grooved surfaces. The balls are in contact with the inner ball groove surface and the outer ball groove surface in a state of having interference, and relative rotation between the outer tube and the inner shaft is disabled. The resin layer covers the outer peripheral side of the ridge portions and has a radial gap and a circumferential minute gap with respect to the grooved surfaces in a neutral state.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5

    【課題】高温環境下でラトル音が生じ難い中間シャフトを提供する。【解決手段】中間シャフトは、金属製のアウタチューブ、金属製のインナシャフト、樹脂層、及びに金属製のボールを備える。アウタチューブの内周面には径方向外側に窪む複数の凹条面が設けられ、凹条面はアウタチューブの内周面の全周に亘って周方向に等間隔で配置される。インナシャフトの外周面には、径方向外側に突出し凹条面の内部に入り込む複数の凸条部と、径方向内側に窪む複数のインナボール溝面が設けられる。インナボール溝面は複数の凹条面のうちの1つであるアウタボール溝面と径方向に対向する。ボールはインナボール溝面とアウタボール溝面との間に締め代を有した状態で当接し前記アウタチューブと前記インナシャフトとの相対回転が不能となっている。樹脂層は、凸条部の外周側を被覆し、中立状態で凹条面に対して径方向の隙間と周方向の微小隙間を有している。【選択図】図5
