To provide a speed governing device for elevators with a single overspeed switch that operates stably.SOLUTION: An operation piece 152 in an overspeed switch 140 activated when the operation piece 152 is rotated around an axis center AX to disengage the actuator 146 comprises: a first bar portion 154 having an engagement portion 154A at one end; a second bar portion 156 having a first contact portion 158A and a second contact portion 160A at each of the two ends and connected to the first bar portion 154 in a T-shaped intersection; and a first rotary support portion 172 and a second rotary support portion 174 that support rotation around the axis center AX of each of the first contact portion 158A and the second contact portion 160A, respectively.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8
