To prevent a driving load on a driver form increasing when making a lane change by autonomous travelling control.SOLUTION: In a vehicle travelling control method, which controls a vehicle that makes a lane change from an original lane L1 on which the vehicle is currently travelling to an adjacent lane L2 adjacent to the original lane by autonomous travelling control including autonomous speed control by which a travelling speed of the vehicle is autonomously controlled and autonomous steering control by which steering of the vehicle is autonomously controlled, a travelling speed VE2 of a vehicle V2 following an own vehicle on the original lane is detected before the vehicle starts lane change, and when the travelling speed of the own vehicle is less than the travelling speed of the vehicle following the own vehicle, the vehicle is prohibited from making the lane change.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
