To provide a wheel position detection apparatus and a tire air pressure monitoring system capable of identifying a wheel position on which a tire sensor is mounted, while suppressing the occurrence of interference.SOLUTION: Tire sensors 2 and an on-vehicle device 3 can perform bidirectional communication. The on-vehicle device 3 detects the rotation angles of wheels 5a to 5d based on output signals from wheel angle sensors 11a, 11b, 11c, and 11d as second rotation angles. In addition, the on-vehicle device 3 sets one of the wheels 5a to 5d as a reference wheel, and transmits a request signal requesting the transmission of a first rotation angle which is the angle of each tire sensor 2, at a timing when the second rotation angle of the reference wheel is changed by a reference value. Further, the on-vehicle device 3 extracts a first rotation amount which is the amount of change of the first rotation angle, and which gives a difference between the first rotation amount and the amount of change of the second rotation angle (the second amount of change) within a prescribed angular error, and identifies the mounting position of the tire sensor detecting the first rotation angle used for the calculation of the first rotation amount as the reference wheel.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1

    【課題】混信の発生を抑制しつつ、タイヤセンサが設置される車輪の位置を特定可能な車輪位置検出装置およびタイヤ空気圧監視システムを提供する。【解決手段】タイヤセンサ2および車載機3は双方向に通信可能に構成されている。車載機3は、車輪角度センサ11a、11b、11c、11dの出力信号に基づく車輪5a~5dの回転角度を第2回転角度として検出する。また、車載機3は、複数の車輪5a~5dのうち1つを基準車輪とし、当該基準車輪の第2回転角度が基準値の分だけ変化するタイミングで、タイヤセンサ2の角度である第1回転角度の送信を要求する要求信号を送信する。さらに、車載機3は、第1回転角度の変化量である第1回転量と第2回転角度の変化量(第2変化量)との差が所定の角度誤差内となる第1回転量を抽出し、当該第1回転量の算出に用いられる第1回転角度を検出するタイヤセンサの設置位置を基準車輪に特定する。【選択図】図1
