To provide a material air transportation system and a material air transportation method capable of performing work required at an arrival place of an aircraft.SOLUTION: A material air transportation system comprises: a self-propelled robot 1; an aircraft 2, on which materials 21 and the robot 1 can be loaded; and a descent/loading device 3 that allows for at least the robot 1 to descend from the aircraft 2 to a ground and to get on the aircraft 2 from the ground in a situation where the aircraft 2 has landed or is hovering. The material air transportation system is configured so that the robot 1 that has descended onto the ground from the aircraft 2 can be loaded on the aircraft 2 again.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
