To provide a monitoring area setting device capable of appropriately setting a monitoring area when an own vehicle changes lanes.SOLUTION: A monitoring area setting device is configured in S220, S225, and S240 to acquire at least one of a vehicle width movement amount which indicates a movement amount of an own vehicle in a vehicle width direction, and an inclination amount which indicates a degree of inclination of the own vehicle with respect to an extension direction of a road on which the own vehicle travels, and a fact that the own vehicle has changed lanes. Also, the monitoring area setting device is configured in S230, S270 to S290 to set a monitoring area in consideration of at least one of the vehicle width movement amount and the inclination amount when the own vehicle changes lanes.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
