To provide a vehicle brake assist device which prevents an own vehicle from colliding with an obstacle by applying brake assisting braking force to the own vehicle while keeping the brake assisting braking force from being excessively large.SOLUTION: A brake assist device calculates: first target deceleration Gbt of an own vehicle to avoid a collision on the basis of a relative distance Dr and a relative speed Vr between an obstacle and the own vehicle (S62); second target deceleration Gbt2 of the own vehicle on the basis of an assist level AL representing a risk of the own vehicle to collide with the obstacle and master cylinder pressure Pmc which is a brake operation related amount (S64 to S68); and a final target deceleration Gbt on the basis of a weighted sum of the first and second target deceleration with a weight of either of the first and second deceleration whichever is larger set larger (S80). Then, the brake assist device performs brake assist by controlling a brake device so that deceleration Gb of the own vehicle becomes equal to the final target deceleration Gbt (S90).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
