To provide a tangential force measuring device capable of continuously measuring tangential force with a simple structure.SOLUTION: A tangential force measuring device 4 measures tangential force generated by slip between a wheel and a rail; continuously rolls a measurement wheel 14 along a rail 2A at a predetermined attack angle θA so that horizontal tangential force is generated in the horizontal direction of the rail 2A; and detects this horizontal tangential force with a tangential force detection unit. Guide wheels 9A, 9B guide the measurement wheel 14 while rolling along a head side surface 2e of the rail 2A so that the measurement wheel 14 rolls along a predetermined position on a head top surface 2d of the rail 2A. A load action unit 21d applies a substantially constant load to the guide wheels 9A, 9B so that the guide wheels 9A, 9B are in close contact with the head side surface 2e of the rail 2A.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
