To provide an operator with an appropriate guideline in each of a state where an alarm is output and a state where an alarm is not output.SOLUTION: A system for monitoring the periphery of a work machine comprises a display control unit which causes a display unit to display an image showing the periphery of the work machine and a guideline disposed at least at a part of the periphery of the work machine in the image. The display control unit switches the display state of the guideline between an effective state where an alarm is output and an ineffective state where the alarm is not output in accordance with the existence of an object in the periphery of the work machine.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
