To provide smooth blade angle control by controlling a decrease in blade angle of a variable pitch propeller according to a degree of overloading.SOLUTION: A variable pitch propeller control unit 1 has: an acquisition part 10 which acquires a fuel supply amount to an internal combustion engine 20 of a ship and a state signal indicative of whether the internal combustion engine 20 is in an overloaded state; a calculation part 11 which calculates, when the internal combustion engine 20 is in the overloaded state, a difference between or a ratio of a maximum fuel supply amount, made to correspond to an engine speed of the internal combustion engine 20 in advance and the fuel supply amount; and a control part 12 which controls a decrease in blade angle of a variable pitch propeller according to the difference or ratio calculated by the calculation part 11.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
