To provide an inflator stably operated with a compact structure and good responsiveness by using a servo mechanism electrically operated with an impact sensor or the like.SOLUTION: A starting needle of an inflator is formed at the tip of a rod stored in a sleeve movably in an axial direction. The rod is provided with a recess to insert the tip of a locking member installed via a through hole disposed on a top face of the sleeve from the outside of the sleeve. A projection member positioned in a lateral face of the sleeve is extended to the locking member, and there is provided a locking member removing device which presses the projection member, and separates the locking member from the recess so as to make the starting needle movable.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 15
