To provide an overhead train line and a method for determining abnormality in the overhead train line capable of effectively preventing arc generation to prevent breaking of a trolley wire under a condition where a distance between the trolley wire and a pantograph is extremely increased such as where the pantograph is lowered by weight of accumulated snow.SOLUTION: An overhead train line comprises: a trolley wire 7 on which a sliding plate of a pantograph slides; a protective wire 6 located above the trolley wire 7 and supported by a suspension wire 3 intermittently via hangers 4 at multiple longitudinally arranged positions, further above which the suspension wire is located; ears 5 disposed at multiple longitudinally arranged positions on the trolley wire 7 and mutually connecting the trolley wire 7 and the protection wire 6; and distortion detecting means disposed on the protection wire 6 and detecting distortion of the protection wire 6.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
