To provide an electromagnetic shock absorber capable of improving a mounting property to a vehicle, reducing weights and costs, and materializing smooth expanding/contracting action.SOLUTION: An electromagnetic shock absorber D1 includes a non-magnetic cylinder 1, a piston rod 2 movably inserted in an inner periphery of the cylinder 1, a piston 3 that is slidably inserted in the cylinder 1, is provided on the piston rod 2, and partitions the inside of the cylinder into an expansion side chamber R1 and a pressure side chamber R2, a linear motor LM that has a cylindrical movable element M installed to the piston rod 2 and a cylindrical stator S provided on an outer periphery of the cylinder 1 and opposite to the movable element M, a working liquid filled in the expansion side chamber R1 and the pressure side chamber R2, an attenuation passage P communicating the expansion side chamber R1 and the pressure side chamber R2, and an attenuation valve V giving resistance to a flow of the working liquid passing through the attenuation passage P.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
