To provide a clearance regulator capable of easily removing a ratchet gear of an automatic clearance regulation mechanism, and a unit brake.SOLUTION: A clearance regulator 40 comprises: a ratchet gear 41 that is attached to a sheath rod for transmitting force to a brake shoe, and interlocks with the rotation of the sheath rod; a ratchet claw 42 that meshes with the ratchet gear 41, and restricts the rotation of the ratchet gear 41 in only one direction; and a frame body 50 to which the ratchet claw 42 is attached, and that covers the periphery of the ratchet gear 41. The clearance regulator adjusts a clearance between the brake shoe and a wheel. The frame 50 comprises an opening 55 having an opening width W longer than an outer diameter D of the ratchet gear 41, and a tension spring 54 that positions the ratchet claw 42 in the opening 55 and opens and closes the opening 55 by an external force.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
