To provide a novel electric drive unit and electric power steering system characteristic of upgraded mechanical and electrical reliability.SOLUTION: An electric drive unit includes: a motor housing-side annular groove 35 realized with an annular groove that is formed on an outer peripheral surface of an end surface 15 of a motor housing 11 and recedes inward in a radial direction orthogonal to an axial line of the motor housing 11; and a cover-side annular distal part 37 that is formed on an opening end of a cover 12 shielding an electronic control unit and is opposed to the annular groove of the motor housing-side annular groove 35 from outside. A gap between the motor housing-side annular groove 35 and the cover-side annular distal part 37 is filled with a liquid sealant. An annular slope 37IN that fans out while tilting toward outside in a radial direction of the cover 12 is formed in an inner peripheral surface of the cover-side annular distal part 37. A tip inner peripheral side of the annular slope 37IN is shaped like an arc 37C or has an inclined shape of tilting outside of the annular slope.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 15
