To provide a hydraulic type continuously variable transmission for traveling capable of ensuring stop on slope under high load situation, keeping a stop state on a flat land under a low load situation, and enabling smooth start.SOLUTION: An HST 3 constituted by combining an axle driving case 10, a hydraulic pump 39, a hydraulic motor 33, and a first oil passage 32a and a second oil passage 32b fluid-connecting the hydraulic pump 39 and the hydraulic motor 33, includes an NCV 90 and an IDS 60 capable of opening each of the oil passages 32a, 32b to the axle driving case 10. The NCV 90 includes a first orifice 94 for opening the first oil passage 32a to the axle driving case 10 when a pressure of the first oil passage 32a is a prescribed pressure or less, and communicating the second oil passage 32b to the axle driving case 10 when a pressure of the second oil passage 32b is the prescribed pressure or less. The IDS 60 includes second orifices 63, 64 for communicating a high pressure side of the oil passages 32a, 32b to the axle driving case 10 when the hydraulic pump 39 has a prescribed discharge amount or less.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 11
