To improve, with respect to a traveling of a vehicle on a road on which a lane change of the traveling vehicle is permitted, detection accuracy of a reverse running vehicle based on an output from a sensor of a vehicle detector.SOLUTION: A processor 23 of the reverse running detection device 11 acquires a vehicle detection signal based on outputs from sensors S 1 to S 4 that detect traveling vehicles 3 of lanes 2 A and 2 B for each lane in the plurality of lanes 2 A and 2 B; and is configured to judge whether or not there is a reverse running vehicle traveling in at least one lane of the plurality of lanes 2 A and 2 B in a reverse direction based on a detection pattern of one or more traveling vehicles in the vehicle detection signals.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
