To provide a tension adjustment device 17 and a tension adjustment method for a handrail 6 of an escalator 1, which makes misalignment difficult to occur when a tension adjustment rail 11 is pressed.SOLUTION: A pressing unit 19 of a tension adjustment device 17 is bonded so as to come into contact with both side surfaces of a handrail 6 of an escalator 1 and a tension adjustment rail 11 for guiding the handrail 6. The handrail 6 and the tension adjustment rail 11 are pressed by pressing the pressing part 19 by an extension 18 of the tension adjustment device 17 extending from the pressing part 19 to a side opposite to the tension adjustment rail 11.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8
