To provide a radar system capable of accurately determining a stationary vehicle and an upper object, and a method for controlling the radar system.SOLUTION: The radar system includes a derivation part, an acquisition part and a determination part. The derivation part derives a detection distance of a target on the basis of a received signal acquired by receiving a reflection wave formed by reflecting a radar transmission wave transmitted to the periphery of an own vehicle on the target existing in the periphery. The acquisition part acquires a distance capable of detecting the maximum of the receiving power of the reflection wave and a distance capable of detecting the minimum of the receiving power in the detection distances sequentially derived by the derivation part. The determination part determines whether or not the target is an upper object without colliding with the own vehicle on the basis of the distance acquired by the acquisition part.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1

    【課題】静止車両および上方物を精度よく判別するレーダ装置およびレーダ装置の制御方法を提供すること。【解決手段】実施形態に係るレーダ装置は、導出部と、取得部と、判定部とを備える。導出部は、自車両の周辺へ送信したレーダ送信波が周辺に存在する物標に反射した反射波を受信して取得される受信信号に基づいて物標の検知距離を導出する。取得部は、導出部によって順次導出される検知距離のうち、反射波の受信パワーの最大値が検出される距離と、受信パワーの最小値が検出される距離とを取得する。判定部は、取得部によって取得される距離に基づいて物標が自車両に衝突しない上方物か否かを判定する。【選択図】図1
