To provide a method to estimate easily a contact angle of a railway vehicle.SOLUTION: A contact angle estimation device 400 calculate a contact angle α,αafter update, using a filter which is an equation expressing the updated contact angle α, and which is applied to a value acquired by subtracting a product of: an inverse F'(α) of a derivative of a cost function J(α) differentiated by a contact angle α; a value J(α) of the cost function at the contact angle αbefore update; and a relaxation coefficient β; from the contact angles αbefore update.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
