To disclose a rotary damper in which an attenuation force is changed depending on a direction.SOLUTION: A rotary damper has a damper housing (12) which is filled with fluid, and a piston (20) accommodated in the damper housing (12) with a rotating shaft (R) as a center so as to be rotatable in a first direction (B1) and a second direction (B2) which is reverse to the first direction. The piston (20) has a flow cross section at which the fluid can flow, a blocking device (30) is arranged in the piston (20), and an attenuation force can be suppressed at the rotation of the piston (20) to the first direction (B1) compared with the case of the rotation of the piston (20) to the second direction (B2) by reducing at least one flow cross section area of an opening (32).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
