To provide a front collision detection device that achieves a cost reduction by determining a collision form of a front collision by means of side acceleration sensors.SOLUTION: Side acceleration sensors 7, 8 are provided behind the front end of a vehicle cabin and near both ends, in a vehicle width direction, a vehicle body. A main acceleration sensor 6 is disposed between them. From a difference between acceleration signals detected by respective acceleration sensors 6, 7, 8, a front collision form of the vehicle, for example, full lap collision, offset collision, or center collision is determined. According to the front collision form, an actuation condition for an occupant restraint device 14 is altered. Even with a small detection value, actuation corresponding to any of the collision forms can be allowed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5

    【課題】サイド加速度センサを利用して前面衝突の衝突形態を判別し、コストの低減を図る前面衝突検出装置を提供する。【解決手段】車室内前端よりも後方に、車体の車幅方向で両端付近にサイド加速度センサ7,8を設け、その間にメイン加速度センサ6を配設し、各加速度センサ6,7,8から検出された加速度信号の差分により、車両の前面衝突形態、例えば、フルラップ衝突、オフセット衝突、センター衝突を判別し、その前面衝突形態に応じて乗員拘束装置14の作動条件を変更し、小さい検出値でも衝突形態に応じた作動ができるようにする。【選択図】図5
