To provide an inter-vehicle communication device for which map data are not required, and a travel support device at low cost.SOLUTION: The present invention relates to an inter-vehicle communication device which is mounted on a vehicle and configured to perform radio communications with other vehicles. The inter-vehicle communication device comprises an inter-vehicle communication part 1 including a reception level detection part 19, a positional information receiving part, and an arithmetic processing part 3. The arithmetic processing part uses latitude/longitude information of the other vehicles and the own vehicle to calculate first and second inter-vehicle distances with first and second other vehicles, receives position error radii and acquires reception levels from the first and second other vehicles. If a difference between the first and second inter-vehicle distances is smaller than any one of a first position error radius and a second position error radius, the vehicle of a greater reception level is discriminated as a vehicle closer to the own vehicle. If the difference between the inter-vehicle distances is greater than both the first position error radius and the second position error radius, the vehicle of a shorter inter-vehicle distance is discriminated as a vehicle closer to the own vehicle, and an inter-vehicle distance of a preceding vehicle is calculated.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1

    【課題】地図データが不要な車車間通信装置および走行支援装置を安価に提供する。【解決手段】車両に搭載され、他の車両と無線通信する車車間通信装置であって、受信レベル検出部19を含む車車間通信部1と、位置情報受信部と、演算処理部3と、を有する。演算処理部は、他の車両と自車の緯度経度情報を用いて、第一および第二の他の車両との第一および第二の車間距離を算出し、位置誤差半径を受信して、第一および第二の他の車両からの受信レベルを取得する。第一および第二の車間距離の差が、第一の位置誤差半径と第二の位置誤差半径のいずれかより小さければ、大きい受信レベルの車両をより自車に近い車両と判定し、車間距離の差が、第一の位置誤差半径および第二の位置誤差半径の両方より大きければ、車間距離の小さい車両をより自車に近い車両と判定し、先行車車間距離を算出する。【選択図】図1
