To reduce the weight of a rack shaft and an electric power steering device.SOLUTION: A rack shaft 12A comprises a first shaft 110 in which a first rack 115 engaged with a first pinion 16 which rotates accompanied by the steering of a steering wheel 1 is formed, and a second shaft 120 in which a second rack 125 engaged with a second pinion 23 which rotates by an electric motor 21 is formed. An outside diameter of the first shaft 110 and an outside diameter of the second shaft 120 differ from each other. The first shaft 110 and the second shaft 120 are connected to each other by friction pressure-welding or the like. The outside diameter of the first shaft 110 to which a relatively-low load acts out of the first shaft 110 and the second shaft 120 is smaller than the outside diameter of the second shaft 120.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
