PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to understand more easily the relation between a rear image of an own vehicle viewed from behind in the front direction and an actual view.SOLUTION: A vehicle periphery monitoring device includes a processing device and a camera mounted on an own vehicle. The processing device outputs an image viewing the own vehicle from behind the own vehicle in the front direction (a rear image of the own vehicle viewed from behind in the front direction), during a forward travel of the own vehicle, on a display device of the own vehicle, on the basis of a past image captured by the camera when the own vehicle was positioned a prescribed distance behind from the position of the own vehicle at present. The rear image of the own vehicle viewed from behind in the front direction is generated by synthesizing the past image with a present image at present captured by the camera.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2

    【課題】 自車後方前向き画像と実景との関連をより分かり易くすること。【解決手段】 車両用周辺監視装置は、処理装置と、自車に搭載されるカメラとを含み、前記処理装置は、現時点の自車位置より所定距離後方に自車が位置するときに前記カメラにより撮像した過去画像に基づいて、自車の前進走行中に、自車内の表示装置に、自車後方から前方に自車を視た画像(自車後方前向き画像)を出力し、前記自車後方前向き画像は、前記過去画像に、前記カメラにより撮像した現時点の現在画像を合成して生成されることを特徴とする。【選択図】 図2
