PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To safely remove a metal foreign substance that is positioned in the vicinity of a power transmission coil.SOLUTION: A control method for a power transmission device is a method for controlling a power transmission device comprising a power transmission coil that outputs power to a power receiving coil, and a thermal sensor that measures a surface temperature of a metal foreign substance on the power transmission coil. The control method includes: (1) causing a mobile including the power receiving coil to output power to the power transmission coil before the mobile and the power transmission coil are overlapped, in order to couple the power receiving coil and the power transmission coil in an electromagnetic manner; (2) causing the thermal sensor to measure the surface temperature of the metal foreign substance; and (3) causing the power transmission coil to decrease or stop output of power in a case where the measured surface temperature of the metal foreign substance is equal to or higher than a threshold.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
