PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of improving a balance weight device of an elevator which makes it possible to enhance strength of the balance weight device in a short time and which can reduce the quantity of waste.SOLUTION: A method of improving the balance weight device 10 of an elevator comprises a step of removal which removes an existing upper beam of a weight body frame 20 from an existing vertical beam 50, a step of processing which processes a retrofitting mounting hole 61 on the existing vertical beam 50 and a step of attachment which attaches a retrofitting upper beam 41 to the existing vertical beam 50 of the weight body frame 20. In the step of attachment, the retrofitting upper beam 41 is attached to the existing vertical beam 50 by a fastening member 70 inserted into the retrofitting mounting hole 61 and in the step of processing, the retrofitting mounting hole 61 is formed on a downward direction of an existing attachment hole 60 for attaching the existing upper beam on the existing vertical beam 50.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
