PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact illumination unit for illuminating a wide area of a display device at high illumination efficiency in a HUD device.SOLUTION: An illumination unit 2 comprises a plurality of sets of illumination units 26 lined up in a reference direction X, each of the sets of illumination units 26 comprising: a light source 20 arranged at a position Pl conjugate with a visual area across a magnifying optical system; and a plurality of stages of condensing lenses 21 that condense light from the light source 20 towards a display unit. Each of the sets of illumination units 26 includes: an initial-stage lens 22 as a condensing lens 21 most adjacent to the light source 20; and a final-stage lens 24 as a condensing lens 21 furthest away from the light source 20. When a combined focal point Pc for a combined lens being a combination of all stages of the condensing lenses 21 from the initial-stage lens 22 to the final-stage lens 24 is assumed in each of the sets of illumination units 26, a main plane 224 of the initial-stage lens 22 has a gap Gl between the same and the light source 20 that is set to equal to or smaller than a gap Gc between the same and the combined focal point Pc.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3

    【課題】HUD装置において表示器の広い面積を高い照明効率にて照明する小型の照明ユニットの提供。【解決手段】照明ユニット2は、拡大光学系を挟んだ視認領域との共役位置Plに配置される光源20と、光源20からの光を表示器へ向かって集光する複数段の集光レンズ21とを一組の照明単位26として、基準方向Xに並ぶ複数組の照明単位26を備える。各組の照明単位26は、光源20に最近接の集光レンズ21としての初段レンズ22と、光源20から最離間の集光レンズ21としての最後段レンズ24とを含む。各組の照明単位26において、初段レンズ22から最後段レンズ24まで全段の集光レンズ21を合成した合成レンズの合成焦点Pcを、想定すると、初段レンズ22の主平面224は、光源20との間にあける間隔Glを、合成焦点Pcとの間にあける間隔Gc以下に設定される。【選択図】図3
