PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately estimate information on vehicle density and traffic density in real time even if only information on a representative value of a speed of a vehicle can be obtained for a predetermined section of a road.SOLUTION: A road traffic condition estimating system comprises: a storage unit that stores a speed/inter-vehicle distance relation table indicating a correspondence relationship between a vehicle speed and an inter-vehicle distance; an inter-vehicle distance estimation unit that estimates a representative value of the inter-vehicle distance of a predetermined section of the road, based on a representative value of acquired speeds for vehicles running on the section, and the speed/inter-vehicle distance relation table; a vehicle density estimating unit that estimates vehicle density of the section based on the estimated inter-vehicle distance representative value and the section length of the section; and a traffic amount estimating unit that estimates a traffic amount of the section based on the representative value of the speed and the estimated vehicle density.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
