PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a runaway arrester capable of obtaining stably sufficient brake force.SOLUTION: An engaging part 8 having an intersection surface 12a intersected with a rotation direction of a wheel 6 in a side view of the wheel 6 is fixed to the wheel 6, and a housing 9 is installed near the wheel 6, and a locking part 10 for regulating movement of the wheel 6 to the rotation direction is installed in the housing 9. Then, a movement mechanism 15 for moving at least either of the engaging part 8 and the locking part 10 to a standby position where the locking part 10 and the intersection surface 12a do not abut mutually, and to a working position where abutment is possible.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
