PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic drive work machine capable of satisfactorily keeping operability of the hydraulic work machine even if hydraulic oil varies is viscosity.SOLUTION: A hydraulic drive work machine comprises a variable discharge type hydraulic pump supplying hydraulic oil to a variable capacity type hydraulic motor for the work machine, capacity control means changing the pump capacity of the hydraulic pump and the motor capacity of the hydraulic motor, and a temperature sensor detecting oil temperature of the hydraulic oil. The pump capacity control means estimates the viscosity of the hydraulic oil from the oil temperature detected by the temperature sensor and selects the pump capacity and/or the motor capacity corresponding to the estimated viscosity. Variation in the volumetric efficiency of the hydraulic pump and/or the hydraulic motor can be compensated, and therefore the hydraulic motor for the work machine can be driven at a constant speed. As the viscosity is estimated from the oil temperature, there is no need of using a sensor for measuring the viscosity, and a manufacturing cost can be suppressed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
