PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a double deck elevator capable of moving up and down both of two cars with a single hoist, and also capable of adjusting a space between the cars even when the cars move up or down.SOLUTION: A first end part 18A of a first rope 18, that is, a first cord-like body, that hangs a lower car 14, that is, a first car, is fixed as a fixed end, and a second end part side thereof is wound around a main sheave 284 of a main hoist 28 for moving up and down the car. A first end part side of a second rope 20, that is, a second cord-like body, that hangs an upper car 16, that is, a second car, is wound around an auxiliary sheave 324 of an auxiliary hoist 32 for adjusting a space between the cars, and a second end part side thereof is wound around the main sheave 284 of the main hoist 28.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
