PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a road shoulder detection system capable of accurately measuring the direction of a vehicle with respect to the road shoulders and the distance to the road shoulders.SOLUTION: Disclosed road shoulder detection system includes a pair of road shoulder detection parts 2a and 2b, a road shoulder measurement unit 21a and a road shoulder storage part 21b. At least one of the road shoulder detection parts 2a and 2b is disposed at the travelling direction side of a vehicle 1. The road shoulder measurement unit 21a has a comparison part 21c that compares a shape of the road shoulder detected by the road shoulder detection parts 2a and 2b and a reference road shoulder shape stored in the road shoulder storage part 21b. The road shoulder detection system measures the direction of the vehicle 1 with respect to the road shoulder B and the distance to the road shoulder B based on the comparison by the comparison part 21c.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
