PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phenolic resin which exhibits a high rubber reinforcing effect, and to provide a rubber composition which is formed into a rubber excellent in strength after vulcanization.SOLUTION: There is provided a phenolic resin including a structure derived from phenols and a structure derived from aldehydes, where the phenols contain a plant-derived compound represented by formula (I), inH-NMR spectrum, the total of integral values of peaks derived from an unsaturated bond hydrogen in a portion derived from a chain hydrocarbon group R of the plant-derived compound is 1-6% with respect to the total of integral values of peaks derived from hydrogen bonded to carbon atoms, a value of (terminal unsaturated bond amount in portion derived from chain hydrocarbon group R of plant-derived compound)/(unsaturated bond amount in chain in portion derived from chain hydrocarbon group R of plant-derived compound) is 0/100 to 15/85, which is obtained by the NMR spectrum, and a weight-average molecular weight of 1,500-350,000 in terms of polystyrene.SELECTED DRAWING: None

    【課題】高いゴム補強効果を発現するフェノール樹脂及び、加硫後に強度に優れたゴムとなる、ゴム組成物の提供。【解決手段】フェノール類に由来する構造及びアルデヒド類に由来する構造を含むフェノール樹脂であって、前記フェノール類は、式(I)で表される植物由来化合物を含み、1H−NMRスペクトルにおいて、前記植物由来化合物の鎖式炭化水素基Rに由来する部分の不飽和結合水素に由来するピークの積算値合計が、炭素原子に結合した水素に由来するピークの積算値合計に対して1〜6%であり、同NMRスペクトルにより得られる(前記植物由来化合物の鎖式炭化水素基Rに由来する部分の末端不飽和結合量)/(前記植物由来化合物の鎖式炭化水素基Rに由来する部分の鎖中不飽和結合量)の値が、0/100〜15/85であり、ポリスチレン換算重量平均分子量が、1,500〜350,000であるフェノール樹脂。【選択図】なし
