PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To be able to quickly determine necessity of high beam.SOLUTION: A vehicle exterior environment recognition device comprises a computer operating as: an illumination deriving part for deriving vehicle exterior illumination; an integrated value deriving part for deriving addition/subtraction values so that the lower the illumination (the greater the exposure) is, the greater the addition/subtraction value becomes compared to the case with higher illumination (smaller exposure) and deriving an integrated value by integrating the addition/subtraction values; and a necessity determination part for determining that the high beam is available when the integrated value is equal to or greater than a predetermined first integrated threshold value, and that the high beam is unnecessary when the integrated value is less than a predetermined second integrated threshold value, which is smaller than the predetermined first integrated threshold value. The integrated value deriving part switches the integrated value to a predetermined value in response to switching of a dimmer switch from a high beam unavailable state to a high beam available state.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5

    【課題】ハイビームが不要か否かを迅速に判定可能となる。【解決手段】車外環境認識装置では、コンピュータが、車外の照度を導出する照度導出部と、照度が低い(露光量が大きい)ほど、照度が高い(露光量が小さい)場合に比べて値が大きくなるように加減算値を導出し、加減算値を積算した積算値を導出する積算値導出部と、積算値が、所定の第1積算閾値以上となるとハイビームが利用可能と判定し、積算値が、第1積算閾値より小さい第2積算閾値未満となるとハイビームが不要と判定する要否判定部、として機能し、積算値導出部は、ディマースイッチがハイビーム不可からハイビーム可に切り換わったことに応じて積算値を所定値に切り換える。【選択図】図5
