PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce eddy current loss generated at a retaining member for a rotor while maintaining strength of an axial gap rotary electric machine, and to lighten an environmental load discharged from an electric vehicle by using the rotary electric machine of the present invention.SOLUTION: A rotor of an axial gap rotary electric machine comprises a retaining member having an insertion hole into which a permanent magnet and a rotor core are inserted, and the insertion hole has a width such that an axial component of magnetic flux is always 0 Wb when integrated over the insertion hole. The rotor of the axial gap rotary electric machine configured to have "p" poles and "s" slots, and comprises the retaining member having the insertion hole into which the permanent magnet and rotor core are inserted, the insertion hole having a width of 360/gcd (p/2,s)[deg] in terms of machine angle in a circumferential direction.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
