PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for modifying a direct connection type hydraulic elevator in which the direct connection type hydraulic elevator can be modified into a non-hydraulic elevator without decreasing the size of an elevator car.SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a method for modifying a direct connection type hydraulic elevator in which the direct connection type hydraulic elevator is modified into a non-hydraulic elevator, the method comprising: a cylinder detaching process of detaching a cylinder from an underground pipe 1 provided below a hoistway 100; a screw rod fitting process of coupling an upper end part of a screw rod 2 to an elevator car 3 after the cylinder detaching process and inserting a lower end part of the screw rod 2 into the underground pipe 1; and a drive device installing process of installing a drive device 4 for moving up and down the screw rod 2 in the underground pipe 1 in the hoistway 100.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
