PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure a degree of degradation of a railway light emitting machine due to stain or aging of a light source, a cover, or the like of the railway light emitting machine.SOLUTION: A railway light emitting machine is made to illuminate at a plurality of levels, which are imaged with a video camera, to obtain brightness of a light emitting machine which is an object of inspection. The obtained brightness and a corresponding brightness at a plurality of levels obtained at the start of operation in advance are corrected with a brightness of a peripheral image, for comparison thereafter, to determine a degree of degradation of the railway light emitting machine.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
