PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position sensor that can secure fail-safeness while using one simple detectable object.SOLUTION: A position sensor S comprises a magnet 30 and element columns 40 constituting six columns arranged opposing each other. The magnet 30 has a constitution of being simultaneously detected by all detection elements 41 belonging to two adjoining columns and, every time when an operating position varies by one column, is displaced by one column relative to the element columns 40. The element columns 40 are switched over between presence and absence of detection (ON/OFF) of the magnet 30 by a total of three detection elements 41 including at least one detection element 41 that detects the magnet 30 on an upstream side in the operating position before variation and at least one detection element 41 that detects the magnet 30 on a downstream side in the operating position after the variation every time when the operating position varies by one.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
